Malaysia - Featured Travel Destination of the Month

With Chinese New Year just around the corner, most Asian destinations are fully booked now, so it’s a great time to start planning your Easter trip and one of my top recommendations for this time of year is the beautiful Malaysia. I was lucky enough to spend three weeks here, a few years ago and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

Cathay Pacific and Malaysian Airlines both offer direct flights to the capital Kuala Lumpur and one of the countries oldest beaches and cultural destinations, Penang. From Kuala Lumpur it’s just a short connecting flight to both Langkawi and the Perhentian Islands, of which both are sun and sand gems within Asia.

We began our trip on the beautiful island of Langkawi, which lies on the north coast of Malaysia. I had actually been told that there wasn’t much to do in Langkawi aside from lie on a beach and that it was mainly a ‘resort style’ destination, but this advice couldn’t have been further form the truth. After a bit of research, we booked a full day tour with and found ourselves in the middle of the Malaysian jungle abseiling down 50ft trees, climbing rope bridges and scrambling up huge nets.  This is a must do for those that want a bit of adventure. There is also plenty to do for families, and the sights on Langkawi include Underwater World, Langkawi Bird Paradise, a cable car and a sky bridge which offers fantastic views on the surrounding jungles and has just been newly renovated. Langkawi offers many beautiful hotels and resorts, and I would highly recommend both the Four Seasons and The Westin, for both families and couples.

Laos - Featured Travel Destination of the Month

Wanting to go somewhere different this year? Not your typical South East Asian break, the completely land locked Laos offers the perfect alternative to travelers looking for that special destination, whilst  still enjoying the perfect weather conditions offered by this area at the right time of year.

Laos markets itself as ‘Simply beautiful’ and this is certainly true. Rolling green mountains, low rise cities and towns, the famous Mekong River, and an abundance of temples and cultural sites make this a fantastic destination for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong.  The dry season lasts from November to March, making this an ideal getaway for Christmas and Chinese New Year too.

Just one connecting flight away from Hong Kong, it’s possible to fly into both the areas of Vientiane and Luang Prabang, and this is best done via Bangkok or Hanoi.  Flights are in high demand though and booking as early as possible is always recommended!

Women’s Equality Day!

Women’s Equality Day commemorated the 26th of August 1920 when women in the United States officially gained the right to vote.  In the 72 years that it took to achieve this right, thousands of women participated in marches, gave speeches all over the nation and held demonstrations with the goal of gaining national women’s suffrage.

Fifty years later on the same date, Betty Friedan called for a nationwide women’s strike for equality.  The three main purposes of the action were (a) repeal of the antiabortion laws (b) establishment of child-care centres and (c) equal opportunities in jobs and education.  Against all odds and despite ridicule by the media, over ten thousand women gathered on Fifth Avenue, New York on the 26th of August.  This was the largest protest for gender equality in all of US history.

Prior to these movements, respected public figures such as Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Immanuel Kant believed that women’s inferior status in society was reasonable; women were ‘beautiful’ and ‘not fit for serious employment.’ However over the last century, great women have proved these views wrong as the world has witnessed what women are capable of achieving, from the likes of Rosa Parks and Eleanor Rosevelt fighting for civil rights and equality, to great business women such as Sheryl Sandberg (Facebook’s COO) and Dr Kate Hersov. Seeing with Fresh Eyes

The optical illusion of the Kanizsa triangle

We can try to find solutions to our problems by seeking advice from others or getting inspiration from a book, yet, according to Carl Yung, founder of analytical psychology: “All the greatest and most important problems of life are fundamentally insolvable. They can only be outgrown with a new and stronger life urge.”

“When we are clear in heart and mind — only then shall we find courage to surmount the fear which haunts our world.”  Albert Einstein

A new year and the opportunity for a fresh start. For many of us, this time of the year sees us looking forward - setting goals, making resolutions, promising ourselves life will be different.

What if…what if all we have to do to experience more joy, more peace, more confidence, whatever it is we want… is to look at things from a different light? See our illusions, and appreciate our value.

I’m beginning the year with my new teaching, material that has come from my travels, about the diamond in our heart. The good news is – we all have a diamond. It’s our uniqueness. It’s our potential. It’s who we really are. What I’d like to show you is how to unlock the power of the diamond within.

When I mentor my entrepreneur clients, most of them are surprised to discover that I often spend just as much time coaching them on a correct money mindset as I do on sound business strategies. How you think and feel about money is just as important as how you earn it. But if you don’t think and feel wealthy, then you’ll never get to that point.
